When he said that he was at Caporetto my jaw dropped, he saw practically every key battle of the war

I read Lt. Pfeifer’s diary a while ago. Truly incredible and authentic. I’m glad to see it’s getting the recognition it deserves. Great documentary.

So very respectful of the great-great grandson for returning the personal items that were collected during the war.

Another excellent episode. The crafting of this rare diary into a well narrated piece is why I eagerly anticipate new episodes released by this channel.

Brilliant, well-written account of the Great War from a German perspective. We on the Allies side have neglected to study the war from the other side. This is excellent addition to any WW1 library.

It reminds me of the story of Max Kaemper. Who fell in the Great War in 1916, and took photographs of his experience, which come across as so similar to modern selfies and pictures on social media. It's an incredibly humbling thing to feel that connection across time with someone who had to endure one of mankind's most tragic events.

I woke up this Friday morning and saw that this was a new production and watched it from beginning to end. Now that I know this book and its contents have survived more than a century

Wow this is a really amazing story, I'm only about 10 min in but getting the individual perspective is always more emotional and helps one really understand the conflicts instead of just division markers on a map and numbers of casualties. The enemy is always demonized but this just shows again that the German boys and men suffered just like the french, british, colonial, and americans. His perspective wasn't that of a monster, but a man doing his part in a hellish war started by the out of touch royalty
