Chí Tâm's real name is Dương Chí Tâm, born in 1952 in Trà Ôn district, Vĩnh Long province, and is a famous cải lương artist who has been active since before 1975 in Saigon. Besides singing, he also composes vọng cổ (traditional Vietnamese opera), tân nhạc (modern Vietnamese music), and is skilled in using traditional musical instruments.
In 1973, he was invited to collaborate with Dĩa Hát Việt Nam. With the recording "Rừng lá thấp" along with Lệ Thủy, he immediately gained fame and his name became well-known. Afterwards, he continued to be invited to record numerous tuồng (classical Vietnamese opera) plays and duet songs with Mỹ Châu, Lệ Thủy, Thanh Kim Huệ, Minh Vương, Minh Cảnh,... This was the most prosperous period in Chí Tâm's career.
In 1974, the cải lương album "Chuyện tình Lan và Điệp" composed by Loan Thảo was released, in which Chí Tâm and Thanh Kim Huệ played the leading roles. This album was considered a phenomenon in the cải lương scene at that time.
