you know it's bad when struggling drawing basic faces

Drawing what you actually like is kinda the biggest realization for me. If I don't draw the things that I actually enjoy, I won't make anything at all! There shouldn't be any "right" or "wrong" project to be working on.

A lot of times sitting down and opening my sketchbook feels so dreadful, just the self imposed high expectations makes me spend days ignoring it. But then I might do a simple doodle on a piece of scrap paper and I'm remided that art doesn't have to be perfect and that just making something is enough. Also switching up the place you make art, at least for me makes it a lot easier to just draw, like drawing in another paper and then sticking the drawings that I like in my sketchbook makes me like the art that i make much more.

I have adhd and self esteem problems so it’s hard to do art consistently for me. I shouldn’t but its hard to not put my self worth in my ability in art for some reason, i dont even draw often like wth brain

one piece of advice that i've been carrying with me (as an artist that struggle with physical/mental energy to do art, despite all the concepts i have) is to do it bad first, and then come back to do it better. so long as you have SOMETHING down, and you're placing that idea you have or want to do, it makes the process of creating something a lot easier. it also punctures perfectionism and makes you more open to being more creative in general, and defeating the habit of making everything "finished" or with all your energy. we're HUMAN! we can't do it all at once! and most times, you'll come back to an idea with a clearer mind of what you want to do, because you give yourself time to dwell on it.

I'm so glad you talked about this! we often put pressure on ourselves to create the best work all the time and when we don;t that can mess with artist ( especially me ). Remembering that art is a process and even the things that don't work teach us a lesson is so important, and teaches us to be patient and have gratitude :)

i'm working on a pretty difficult piece at the moment just to challenge myself and this vid came at the perfect time, allowing myself to just see what i can do with my skillset instead of being pissed that my skills aren't where i want it

If anyone is struggling to make art I stoped using my phone for a week only used it “FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY” and I had so many ideas right after and still do but I have a little bit of blocking due to college right now but it’s better to also go outside even at the house or park for a while to refresh your mind because if your inside all day well that’s not gonna help you at all,other then that good luck
