Founded by Angelica Nwandu in 2014, THE SHADE ROOM has built a dedicated and highly engaged community of readers---better known as the Roommates---across the digital and social media landscape.

In 2018, TSR expanded its brand impact to include The Shade Room TEENS, a Gen-Z-focused outlet that serves up entertainment news from a younger point of view.
