Description

The Seuso treasure has been keeping the public domain in excitement for more than four decades by now.

It is not only the historian community that has been aware of the treasure’s existence but, because of some mysterious murders, a broader circle of people has shown interest towards this hoard of objects dated back to the late Roman Empire.

Most probably it was the middle 1970’s when an individual called Mr József Sümegh must have found the invaluable Roman dinner set comprising a minimum amount of a couple of dozen objects which became later known as the Seuso treasure.

Mr Sümegh, who spent the last weeks of his line infantry service, died under mysterious circumstances in 1980. Contemporary minutes recorded a suicide but according to a posterior police investigation an act of intent might have happened.

Nevertheless, it was not only Mr Sümegh who paid with his life for this treasure, but many others might have fallen while fighting for taking control over this hoard of objects.
