This channel was created to examine the Martial Arts beyond its physical elements. The vehicle that will be used on this journey to explore the Martial Arts will be 鳳凰流(ほうおうりゅう)Ho Oo Ryu. Ho Oo Ryu was created to bridge the generational and cultural gaps in Asian martial arts, and to shine a light on the mystical qualities of this ancient and wonderfully creative art form. In attempting this, students and others can gain a deeper understanding of martial arts " beyond the physical" elements. The three fundamental ideas upon which Ho Oo Ryu was founded are self-betterment,self-protection, and self-awareness. These relate to the three fundamental underpinnings of what makes a whole human: mental, physical, and spiritual. This eternal verity (trinitarian unity) has been expressed and affirmed by great Asian minds from the poet Basho to such wise philosophers as Buddha, Gandhi, and Gichin Funakoshi. A balanced life include all three.
