This AMV just makes me sad about the wasted potential with how the anime handled their fall into despair.

This tells a better story of how they all fell into despair than the anime did.

Now that i've actually finished sdr2, I've now noticed that Nanami wasn't in this aha.

This is perhaps the most amazing Danganronpa AMV that has been created. The closest to canon, if not canon, to the characters. I love it. I find myself watching this one a lot.

I think what makes SDR2 the HSLD kids so interesting is that if they never met Junko they would have probably been a really great set of people. And then after meeting junko who basically brainwashed them and warped their minds they became so twisted . They are still loveable though even when you find out they were all murderous despair spreading psychos

oh wow, thank you! this is such a great comment and exactly why the sdr2 cast fascinates me so much. it's just the idea that such a vibrant group of kids who liked parties and honoured their friends - who tried to hide from their problems and had horrible backstories but still actively attempted to become better people through the course of the story- were desperate and broken enough to willingly become pawns for junko, to do horrible things because the world deserved it? aughh, so interesting.

Exactly. He wanted to prove Junko wrong especially after he probably joined after failing to become the Hope Project. But then over time he probably lost sight but still clung to the hope (but if he still clings to hope I still see him as not being 100% under Junko's control because anyone who talks about hope never goes well. Junko couldn't get Makoto and she couldn't get him completely but still drove him insane unlike Makoto.

Shows how incrediable Junko is for turning all these characters into SHSL Despair.

it's pretty obvious that they were among the last to join up though. nidai didn't even let being turned into a robot get him down, bc it meant he could still live. and gundam's entire post-trial speech was about never giving up on life and staying true to your beliefs. he even says that there is no worth in giving into despair. even though their social links show really sad backstories, they also solidify how hard it would be to push either of them to the edge of ~despair~.

OH MAN there's like fifty reasons i want sdr2 to be animated (hopefully done better than the first but i will honestly take what i get) but you're right that the shsl despair twist makes more sense after reading all of their social links. but i think at least half of them have parts of their backstories mentioned in the main story too as a core part of their personalities or uh - murder motives. so i don't think we have to worry that much about them cutting out that stuff.

This kind of makes his death in chapter 5 depressing. Since it was still suicide, I saw his cruel death as Komaeda just giving up on everyone instead of fighting back against Monobear because he couldn't forgive despair. I mean Hinata said that Komaeda did it because of his desire for hope but I see it as "The person with the biggest hope fell into the biggest despair." And then getting his last free time event where Komaeda decides to close himself to Hinata instead of confessing is depressing.

I love how in the last photo Nagito is lifting his mask, it kinda symbolizes how he's the only one who never fully fell into full despair
