Welcome everybody to PotomacRails! The premier channel for trains and railfanning in the DC area and beyond. Here we document the trains and lines they run on, from the most popular locations to more obscure ones. It’s always great to see what there is to find out on the rails!
From the quaintest crossing to the largest terminus, PotomacRails is here to give the Railfan community a new perspective on Railfanning in the District, Maryland, and Virginia. We visit some of the most challenging places to photograph trains, and show the results of how rewarding it can be to try new angles and come out of your photography comfort zone. Here at PotomacRails, we show the Railfan community how interesting things can be found on ordinary trains that go through your own region - not just with special or "heritage" units, or hundreds of miles away at a Railfan "hotspot".
