Description

The American pianist Michael Lu has been noted for “moving” (Pianist) performances of a “warm, enveloping tone” (Cleveland Classical). As a concerto soloist, he has worked with such conductors as Stephen Mulligan and Gemma New, and his chamber music collaborators have included Maria João Pires and principal players of the Cleveland Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. While receiving special recognition for his performances of Schubert, Tchaikovsky, and Schumann, Michael is also a unique champion of the American piano literature, giving world premieres of two rediscovered pieces by Florence Price as well as local premieres of works by Ned Rorem and George Walker. Michael is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Antonio Pompa-Baldi. He also studied with Stanislav Ioudenitch, Seth Carlin, Reid Smith and Jon Kimura Parker. Additionally, Michael is the founder of Classical Music for a Better World (CMBW).
