Wayfarers Chapel

Description

Wayfarers Chapel is a ministry of the Swedenborgian Church and an inspiring setting for important passages-of-life celebrations. A National Historic Landmark since 2023, the chapel has been serving the community of Rancho Palos Verdes since 1951. Architect Lloyd Wright designed Wayfarers Chapel out of glass, wood and stone to serve as the National Memorial to Emanuel Swedenborg and the Swedenborgian Church. A forward-looking Christian denomination, the Swedenborgian Church was founded to help people be more open to the Lord’s presence and leading, to facilitate the spiritual well-being of people, and to increase awareness of the new age in which we live. In February 2024, Wayfarers Chapel closed its doors due to ongoing landslide damage and later announced plans to disassemble the chapel to save it from destruction. The Wayfarers community is committed to preserving the historic chapel, including rebuilding the chapel on a new site in Rancho Palos Verdes as announced in May 2025.
