Just wanted to say this is your best analysis, maybe by far? Of a show. This and the Dandadan S2 vid have had some real writing muscle behind them.

I think Thors is an almost perfect example of the quote "be strong enough to be gentle"

I think the "You have no enemies" quote means more that there is no one who inherently deserves to be hated or treated with violence. He's saying that every human you meet is human, and the kind of closing your heart to their suffering required to participate in either father or son's respective wars is unequivocably wrong. He is not saying to never take up arms, he is saying that Thorfinn must feel the weight of violence every time he chooses to make more of it, and accordingly choose not to as often as possible.

Ok, I don't think it's ever fully explained in the manga, but I want to explain my reading of the motto "I don't have any enemies" (spoiler free of course). Once you start thinking of someone as your enemy you see them fully as an opposite, a threat, the nuances and complexities of that person start disappearing. When thors says that nobody has any enemies he doesn't mean that whenever there is a threat against your love ones you shouldn't act, but more to always keep in mind that what you are doing is protecting and that the person on the other side is a fellow human being, so it's better to do everything within your power to take a peaceful route. Violence should only be used to 1. Protect and 2. Do a little damage as posible. You don't have to consider someone and enemy to fight them, that Will only dehumanize them and thors didn't Believe in that, It is the harder route to always understand that they are also human.

I think the best way to describe Ketil is how Yoshikawa Kikyou, a caharcter in A certain magical Index describes herself: Soft, but ultimately not kind. Which is why he fears his son Thorgill so much.

I think what Thors meant by “you have no enemies” is that Thorfinn shouldn’t look at anyone as “bad people” but rather as just people who have been put in bad circumstances. This is supported by the fact that Thors himself used to be a killing machine and now hopes for a better life, so if he can make that change, why can’t everyone else?

17:30 if the running waters are life then would frozen water both represent him regaining his life by moving forward again and moving forward by breaking through a wall of stopped life?
