Sometimes things don't go as planned. In January 2020 I ordered chicks to be delivered late September. We were moving to a new half-acre property where we would put a manufactured home, and there would be plenty of room for a nice coop and run for the new flock. And then...permits took far longer than expected, clearing and prepping the land for the home took longer, sewer and electricity installation took longer, there was a fire and the manufactured home builder's offices were destroyed so ordering the home took longer than expected, and then, and then, there was the pandemic, the state lockdown, a mask mandate, and travel restrictions. And then the chicks arrived. Eight weeks later they were still in my kitchen with no intention of leaving anytime soon. Know what? I don't care. I love them. They make me smile and laugh. They drive my dogs nuts. They talk sweetly and soothe my soul during a time of chaos and change as I have never before experienced. Cheers to chickens in my kitchen.
