When was the last time people genuinely bought a PlayStation for it's exclusives? Maybe PS2? Possibly a PS3 at the end of it's life cycle? Since then it's mostly 3rd party software or free live service games that keeps PlayStation alive.

Not only PlayStation exclusives are dead — the entire console market is dead. Sony keeps getting stingier. You buy The Last of Us, Uncharted, or GTA V for the PS3, but on the PS4 you can’t use them unless you buy them again, and then again on the PS5. As an excuse they nudge the games’ resolution up one notch and tell customers this is the “HD remastered version.” Console players pay twice for online play; Nintendo sues anyone who doesn’t do what they want and introduces rules that games bought online can only be used on a single Switch via their virtual software cartridges. They make it clear they can render any console unusable at the push of a button. They even sell “game-key cards” that look like normal Nintendo Switch game cards but contain only a download code, so unsuspecting parents think they’re buying a physical game for their child when it’s just a code. They charge money for tech demos and don’t even try to hide that they’re taking advantage of their customers. Microsoft and the Xbox are completely lost at the moment anyway.
