Deltares is an internationally renowned research institute in the field of coastal structures. Coastal structures are typically built in a hostile environment, often in deep water, possibly on weak subsoils, and under a large wave loading. Research is often needed to determine an optimal solution. The best verification or optimization of coastal structures is obtained by physical model tests. Deltares has state-of-the-art coastal facilities and dedicated instrumentation. This includes the new Delta Flume, the largest wave flume in the world. Also numerical models are increasingly used to study certain aspects of coastal structures.
