Tempo Sound
1970s Early 1980s
Toronto
Tempo Sound, one of Toronto’s pioneering reggae sound systems. Born in the late 1970s during the heyday of King Tubby–style dub and ska culture, Tempo emerged when sound systems were more than just music — they were full-blown experiences with rented trucks, towering speakers, and raw energy on the decks.

Co-founders like Soujie (who once collaborated with Shabba Ranks) built Tempo into a legendary platform, spinning rare dubplates and exclusive cuts — from Michael Prophet to Dirtsman — while lacing the vibes with punchy mic work and live MC flair. Tempo helped fuel Toronto’s reggae heartbeat, even giving selectors like Fire Kid Steenie their first shine.

Today. DJ Red Out, formerly of the iconic 3 Star Sound, now carries the Tempo banner into the new era. Known for his sharp selections, battle-tested skills, and love for hardcore dancehall, Red Out keeps the sound’s warrior spirit alive true sound system tradition
