A pianist, arranger, composer, producer, singer, and writer born in Cuba, La Palabra began his musical journey at an early age. At 15, he moved to the United States, where he further developed his career by performing with renowned ensembles such as Orquesta Versalles, Richie Ray, Eddie Palmieri, and the Joe Cuba Sextet.
He studied at Cooley High School, where he founded The Blazers, the institution’s first racially integrated band, setting a cultural and social milestone within his community.
His musical approach is defined by a sophisticated fusion of jazz, R&B, pop, rock & roll, guaguancó, and soul, creating a powerful sound that bridges his Latin roots with global influences.
In 1981, in Los Angeles, he became a pioneer in the development of Salsa Romántica, a movement that redefined the genre. Songs such as “El Tun Tun de Tu Corazón” and "Rumores" became major hits, solidifying his influence on contemporary Latin music.
