That’s so fascinating and a great genealogical journey! I just love learning historical facts! It’s especially nice to learn facts from my home state! Being from York, PA, I have knowledge of the local history. Keep up the great work!

I grew up in that area. Loved going to the Curve. My wife's Grand Father was supposed to have been an Engineer on the Pennsylvania RR in the K4 series steam engines. We've never been able to confirm or disprove that information. Maybe a visit to Altoona and the RR Museum is due and maybe we could also talk to the curator and get access to records.

I read about an engineer that was on the Williamsport/Bald Eagle Subdivision who would test new locomotives on the run to Altoona through Tyrone from up towards Ralston and Elmira way, O.P. Orr, Set Up Running is an amazing read. My great great uncle was an engineer on the Pennsy out of the Terre Haute yards. His picture is in my profile here, Hoyt Mayfield. I'm very fascinated with the Red Arrow train wreck and any train wrecks, so thanks for mentioning them in this btw.

My maternal grandfather worked as a brakeman on the Pennsylvania RR and The New York Central RR (Later combined). I'm from Pittsburgh, and lived in Harrisburg. This "deep dive" is fascinating. New Sub!

Some other sources of PRR records you should investigate (if you haven’t already) would be the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, the PRR Technical and Historical Society in Lewistown, and the Altoona Area Public Library.
