I still like the theory that the cut to black symbolizes him having a massive coronary after eating half an order of onion rings before anyone else even got to the table.

The ending is actually Tony having a stroke when the waiter tells him we are out of gabagool

You either die as the Sopranos or live long enough to be Game of Thrones.

The cut to black is a nod to Meadow's ex-boyfriend Noah coming back to punch Tony's lights out

Ah, I see your problem, you havent unlocked the true ending. you need to do all the episodes again in freeplay mode and eat all the hidden gabagools, as well as making enough money to achieve "true gangster" and collecting the red bricks

The ending is actually much more interesting than I originally thought. The writers for the sopranos were talking about how people probably don’t hear death, since a gunshot to the head is so quick people don’t even really have time to mentally register what is happening to them. The goal is to make the audience feel the same way Tony does. How he’s alive one moment and dead the next. The same thing can happen to anyone of us at any time, and while death in movies is this dramatic climax in a film/show, in reality death is sudden and impartial and lacks the gravitas of something like the final shootout in Scarface.

We have sopranos to thank for hour-long episodes becoming the standard. Except now they don't understand why episodes were that long in the first place.

The mafia in America declined in part because they got less violent, and thus, less of a concern. They got really into cyber crime. Why extort a deli owner for $2,000 and a felony when you can steal their credit card, rack up charges, have the whole thing get covered by insurance, and maybe face a misdemeanor if you get caught?

I always viewed Kennedy and Heidi as the true finale of the Sopranos and everything else is the epilogue. The show has always been about Tony grappling with his humanity and how he can make sense of himself as both a mafioso and a family man. Kennedy and Heidi gave us the answer, Tony killed his son Chris, he admits to himself that it was easy to do, that its a weight off his shoulders, and right at the end, he gets his epiphany. He'll never be punished for his awful deeds, far from it, he's rewarded for it, and he's happy. The battle is over, he's beyond redemption
